Any MCP coding tool+Stompy

The record is for the project, not for one editor

Pick the editor you like. The decisions stay in one place you own.

The Problem

There are a lot of AI coding tools, and a new one turns up most months. Each keeps its own idea of the project, in its own place, in its own format.

Moving between them means rebuilding that picture by hand, and the one you leave keeps a stale copy.

How Stompy Helps

Stompy is one project record that does not belong to any of them. This page covers the many tools that would otherwise each get their own page: GitHub Copilot in VS Code, Windsurf, Aider, Continue, Cody, Zed and the rest.

If the tool can connect to a remote MCP server with OAuth, add https://mcp.stompy.ai/mcp the way its configuration expects. Two examples are below. If it cannot, use the stompy command from its terminal or call the REST API from a script. All three reach the same entries.

You decide what is kept. A session reads the brief, recalls by name and searches by meaning; it writes only when you ask it to.

Integration Walkthrough

1

VS Code (for Copilot agent mode)

Add this to .vscode/mcp.json, or run MCP: Add Server from the Command Palette. VS Code handles the OAuth sign-in.

{
"servers": {
"stompy": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://mcp.stompy.ai/mcp"
}
}
}
2

Windsurf

Add this to ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json, then refresh in Cascade's MCP panel and authorise in your browser.

{
"mcpServers": {
"stompy": {
"serverUrl": "https://mcp.stompy.ai/mcp"
}
}
}
3

A tool without MCP: use the command line

Set a default project once, then lock, recall and search from any terminal.

stompy project use my-project
stompy context recall api_conventions
stompy context search "how we handle errors"
4

Start from the brief

project_brief compiles the project's locked contexts and ticket summary into a short overview a new session can read. It is a summary of what you chose to keep, not a transcript.

project_brief(project="my-project")

What You Get

  • One record for the project, whichever editor you open it in
  • Moving between tools does not mean a migration
  • Three doors to the same entries: MCP, the stompy command and REST
  • You decide what is kept; sessions write only when asked
